***To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have an open application for the Global Career Accelerator. If you do not have a GCA application open by the scholarship's deadline, you will not be considered for the award.***
The University of Memphis is committed to providing students with an education that will ensure global awareness and multicultural appreciation. In order to encourage students to engage in international activities, the University awards scholarships to eligible students based on merit and/or need who plan to enroll in an approved program. This is a competitive process and scholarships are not guaranteed. The amount awarded is dependent on the applicant pool, available funding, length and the duration of the intended program.
Application Deadlines: Fall - July 15 Spring - November 15 Summer - April 15
Eligibility
Applicants are required to have a 2.75 cumulative GPA; however, if your GPA is below the minimum requirement, you may write a supplemental statement explaining your circumstances for the Scholarship Committee to take into consideration. As the Global Career Accelerator program is only available to undergraduate students, only undergraduate students may apply for this scholarship.
Conditions of Acceptance
A recipient of the Virtual Study Abroad Scholarship must agree to provide 10 hours of service to the UofM Education Abroad Office upon completion of the Global Career Accelerator program. The Office holds various events throughout the year such as study abroad fairs, outgoing and incoming student orientation, promotional tables, exchange student pick-up, etc., in which volunteers are needed. These are the kind of events scholarship recipients are to help with upon the completion of their program. There are also online/virtual opportunities to provide volunteer hours. For more information about volunteering, please check our
Scholarship Volunteer Information webpage.
**IMPORTANT NOTE FOR FRESHMEN**
You must have an official college transcript in order to be awarded this scholarship. If you do not yet have one, you are still encouraged to apply; however, you will have to wait until your official transcript has been processed by the UofM to receive the award funding. This will likely happen after the program payment deadline, meaning that the scholarship would act as a reimbursement. This could look one of two ways:
- If you are a freshman participating in the Global Career Accelerator during your first semester in college, you will not receive the scholarship until the end of the semester. After final grades have been posted, your official transcript will be published and you will be awarded this scholarship.
- If you are a freshman participating in the Global Career Accelerator for your second semester in college, you will not receive the scholarship until your first semester official transcript is published. This will likely happen sometime in between semesters or at the beginning of the new semester.
