May 11 - 27, 2020

Members of the University of Memphis Band will travel to Vietnam and Thailand to study the music and culture of those countries. The students will participate in cultural exchange events, attend lectures/classes on the music and culture of Vietnam and Thailand, visit sites of historic importance, and perform concerts. Classes, lectures, and rehearsals will be conducted at the University of Memphis, Hanoi Conservatory in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh Conservatory in Vietnam, and the College of Music at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Tentative Itinerary:

Monday, May 11, 2020: Flight to Hanoi, Vietnam 

Tuesday, May 12, 2020: Arrive in Hanoi and board motor-coach; attend Water Puppet Show and Traditional Vietnamese Music Concert at Thang Long Theatre 

Wednesday, May 13: Rehearse and perform at Vietnam
 National Academy of Music 

Thursday, May 14: Guided tour of Hanoi 

Friday, May 15: Flight to Hai An, Vietnam; board motor-coach and check into hotel; guided tour of city and historic monuments; 

Saturday, May 16: Visit the Cam Kim traditional Vietnamese Village; visit rice fields and learn about local agriculture; transportation via motor-coach 

Sunday, May 17: Flight to Ho Chi Minh City; board motor-coach and check into hotel 

Monday, May 18: Rehearsal, lectures, and concert at the Ho Chi Minh Conservatory of Music 

Tuesday, May 19: Culture immersion tour of the Mekon Delta via motor-coach and tour boat; 

Wednesday, May 20: Flight to Chiang Mai, Thailand; board motor-coach and check into hotel; attend the traditional and legendary Khantoke Dinner and Show 

Thursday, May 21: Visit the Doi Suthep Temple; rehearsal, l
ectures, and concert at the Kad Suan Kaew Theatre 

Friday, May 22: Visit an Elephant Camp; visit a local secondary school as guests to their English Speaking camp - our students will be working with Thai students to help them practice their English speaking skills. 

Saturday, May 23: Flight to Bangkok, Thailand; board motor-coach and check into the artist residence at the College of Music at Mahidol University; attend concert performance by the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra 

Sunday, May 24: Rehearsal, lectures, and concert at Mahidol University 

Monday, May 25: Board motor-coach for guided tour of Shangri-La and Bangkok. 

Tuesday, May 26: Flight to USA; arrive in Memphis, TN 
on Wednesday, May 27
