Biology in Santa Anna, Costa Rica

Studying Biology in Costa Rica helps students make connections to the concept of biodiversity and our role in the ecosystem. Students will observe diverse plants and animals in their native environment by going on multiple excursions to various national parks, reserves, and refuges. Alongside the nature excursions, students will also interact with locals during their visits to farms and plantations. Costa Rica with its tropical setting and sustainable practices in farming and plantation provides a unique opportunity for students to appreciate biology.
BIOL 1020: Biology of Organisms will expose and improve students' understanding of biodiversity, its significance and sustainability through direct observation of plants, animals during nature excursions, visits to national parks, plantations and farms. Students will participate in the course through eCourseware and must attend two or more mandatory meetings.

Program Payments: This program travels in the summer but students enroll in a spring term course. Thus, the program fee and tuition will be charged to students' TigerExpress accounts in the Spring term.
If you are an undergraduate, full-time student then your tuition fee for the Spring will not increase due to your study abroad course. Undergraduate students who are taking a full-time course load are charged $4,956 for Spring tuition, no matter how many credits you register for.
If you are an out-of-state student, then your tuition for 3 credit hours in the Spring is $1,719. If you are a part-time student, then your tuition for 3 credit hours in the Spring is $1,239.
The program includes shared lodge style accommodations at the tranquil mountain campus of the Conversa Language School in Santa Anna (20 minutes from San Jose).
Participants will experience the Monteverde cloud forest, Daytime and Nocturnal tour, Praia Dona Ana Beach, La Paz Waterfall & Gardens, Poas Volcano, Early morning bird watching in the campus of Conversa; visit to coffee plantation, visit to La Esperanza sustainable farm, San Jose city tour, Santa Ana Farmers market.
