Program Cost: The Mainz program is a bilateral exchange. Participants will pay UM tuition for 15 credit hours in addition to the $350 application fee. The program fee does not include housing, food, insurance, round trip airfare or personal expenses.
 
Program Description: Mainz University is one of the oldest universities in Germany. It was founded in 1477. Today, it has almost 34,000 enrolled students, among them about 4,800 foreign students.

Program Location: Located in the on the Rhine, Mainz is the capital of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, near Frankfurt. Important media companies have their headquarters in Mainz, but it is also the heart of a major wine-producing region. Mainz combines the advantages of urban lifestyle with small-town charm. this means a multitude of social and cultural events are conveniently accessible by public transportation, but at the same time, outdoor recreation areas in Rheingau, Rheinhessen, Pfalzer Wald and the World Heritage Site Middle Rhine Valley are always within reach.
 
Mainz offers courses in the following departments:

  • Exercise and Sport Sciences
 Students must have taken 5-6 semesters of college-level German to participate in the program. 
 
Program Dates: The German semester is quite different then the American semester. In general, the fall semester will begin in late October and continue until the end of February. The spring semester begins in late April and continues until the end of July.  Spring Semester 2015 dates are April 20 - July 25. Fall 2015 dates are October 19 - February 6. Dates are subject to change.
 
Accommodations: Students can apply for student housing in one of the dorms of Studierendenwerk Mainz. There are also several residence halls located on campus and around town.
