Virtual Internships

Virtual Internship program placements are available in English for many majors at various sites across the world. Students will be paired with an employer abroad but do not need to travel abroad to complete a virtual internship. Participation in an internship can give you the the professional advantage you to need to succeed by giving you the global skills that are in demand in today’s job market. 

For virtual internships abroad, the University of Memphis partners with third-party organizations who work with students to find a placements worldwide that best fits with their personal, academic and professional goals. These providers include Academic Programs International (API), Cultural Experiences Abroad (CEA), the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University (IFSA-Butler) and International Studies Abroad (ISA). 

Application Process

Students must meet with a study abroad advisor before applying for a virtual internship abroad to discuss the program details and application process.

Students are required to simultaneously submit an application to both the University of Memphis (UofM) Study Abroad Office and the third-party provider. University of Memphis students application must be approved by the UofM Study Abroad Office before the third-party provider will confirm the final acceptance. 

The third-party provider will match a student with their employer based on their career goals. 

What's Included in a Virtual Internship Abroad

The services provided by third-party providers typically include an internship placement, virtual orientation, professional development resources, and online cultural activities. 

Virtual International Internships are usually unpaid. 

Most third-party providers charge a fee for issuing a transcript for your internship credit. Talk with your Study Abroad Advisor about whether or not you need a transcript for your internship credit.
