Program Description:
About the Scholarship: The University of Memphis is committed to providing students with an education that will ensure global awareness and multicultural appreciation. In order to encourage students to study abroad, the University awards scholarships to eligible students based on merit and or need who plan to enroll in an approved study abroad program. Undergraduate students in programs that promote the development of international competency, defined as the acquisition of a foreign language or extended experience in a foreign culture will be given priority. This is a competitive process and scholarships are not guaranteed. The amount awarded is dependent on the applicant pool, available funding, length and the duration of the intended program.

Please keep in mind that this scholarship is not guaranteed. Academic year students receiving the study abroad scholarship will receive the full amount of their award credited to their account at the beginning of the fall semester. Students are responsible to budget for 2nd semester expenses accordingly.

GPA Requirement: We require that applicants have a 2.75 cumulative GPA , however, if you're GPA is below the minimum requirement, you may write a supplemental statement explaining your circumstances and the Committee will take that under consideration.

Application Deadline
Deadline: March 1

Recipient Expectations: A recipient of the Study Abroad Scholarship for an academic year program must agree to provide 10 hours of service to the Center for International Programs and Services upon return from the study abroad experience. The study abroad office holds various events throughout the year such as the study abroad fair, outgoing and incoming orientation, promotional tables, exchange student pick-up, etc., in which we need volunteers to help with. These are the kind of events scholarship recipients are to help with upon their return from the study abroad program.
