Service Learning Abroad

Service learning abroad provides an opportunity to engage in community service at non-profit organizations, health clinics, schools, and local government offices abroad.

Service learning program placements are available for many majors at various sites across the world. 

For international service learning, the University of Memphis partners with third-party organizations who work with students to find a placements worldwide that best fits with their personal, academic and professional goals. These providers include Academic Programs International (API) and International Studies Abroad (ISA). 


What's Included in Service Learning Abroad
The services provided by third-party providers typically include a service learning project placement, accommodations, 24-7 support, airport pick-up, health insurance, professional development, transportation pass and cultural activities. 

Some service learning programs may include tuition for 3 - 6 credit hours. In some cases, credits can be added for an additional fee.


 Application Process
Students must meet with a study abroad advisor before applying for a service learning abroad to discuss the program details and application process.

Students are required to simultaneously
 submit an application to both the University of Memphis (UofM) Study Abroad Office and the third-party provider. University of Memphis students application must be approved by the UofM Study Abroad Office before the third-party provider will confirm the final acceptance.
